Comic Book Reviews – Rocket Raccoon #1 and Legendary Star-Lord #1

Rocket Raccoon #1

Writer and Artist: Skottie Youngindex13r

Colorist: Jean-Francois Beaulieu

Letterer: Jeff Eckleberry

I cannot convey how fantastic the art is for this book. I was blown away. Skottie Young has come such a long way since I first saw him on the Human Torch solo series back in the early 2000s (and I loved his art then!) His art style is so unique and cartoony which works perfectly for this book. Not only is he an awesome artist, he’s a great writer. He gets these characters and I thought he wrote them extremely well. I am looking forward to seeing where this book goes.

Yes this is a solo Rocket book, but I was glad to see him interacting with the other Guardians because it makes it feel a little bit more real like this adventure is actually taking place in between the issues of Guardians of the Galaxy. I am going to enjoy Rocket as the main focus instead of simply being a supporting character.

Overall, the story was engaging and absolutely hilarious. I was expecting this book to be both fun and funny and it delivered on both accounts. To me, this was a perfect first issue. I’ll be staying with this book at least as long as Skottie Young is behind the helm. I think he will do awesome things with Rocket.

Rating: 7 (Out of 7) – Fantastic all around, this is an issue you don’t want to miss!
