Comic Review: Convergence: Green Lantern Parallax #1
Convergence: Green Lantern, Parallax #1
Written By: Tony Bedard
Art By: Bill Reinhold & Ron Wagner
Kyle has worn his power ring for “5 minutes” when the dome went up and took powers from everyone in Metropolis. He goes to visit Hal Jordan who has checked himself into prison because he believes he is responsible for the murders of countless lives while under the influence of Parallax. Once the dome opens up, Kyle is “Welcomed back to the Green Lantern Corps”, but that also means Parallax is back as well. Kyle tries to help Hal, when Electropolis attacks. Parallax takes over, and goes to destroy Electropolis.
Mr. Bedard wrote Hal well , showing the guilt he felt by not having the will to overcome Parallax and save everyone. The art worked well in those scenes, it also looked great when Parallax took over again. The middle and the end are the weak parts of this issue, mainly because it felt like a failed opportunity with the villain from the other “universe”.
Overall, the Green Lantern issue of Convergence started off strong, but could have benefitted from a better villain toward the end. I would have been interested seeing Parallax Hal Jordan fight against someone else in the corps (Sinestro, New 52 Hal Jordan, or Abin Sur). A well written Hal, with some nice art, make me excited to see what happens next.
