Review Shooter: Carnage U.S.A. #1

Carnage U.S.A. #1
Writer: Zeb Wells
Artist: Clayton Crain
Review by Anthony Lopes

Zeb Wells and Clayton Crain are back with their new Carnage 5 part mini series. Cletus Cassidy is once again united with the symbiote and ready to take over the U.S.A. The Carnage Cassidy has always been one of my favourite villains, he is an evil psychopathic madman.

This comic does not disappoint, it is a very dark take on Carnage.  Cassidy settles in on Doverton, Colorado where he plans to take over the town. Carnage does major damage right off the bat and the Avengers have to come in to save the day. During the fight, Carnage zeros in on Spider-man leaving him in a sticky situation. Usually Spidey is in control and cracking jokes but the roles are reversed and Carnage dominates. The last few pages really sets the stage for the rest of this series, especially the last panel.

I am on the fence on the art work, Crain has a more realistic look using a digital painting technique. I do like how it is different from what I am use to so it should grow on me. He really puts in a lot of detail and does a great job at making it dark. Zeb Wells has done an amazing job with Carnage and it can only get better, darker and more psychotic.  This is defiantly something that you don’t want to miss.

New Reader Accessibillity: 5 – Even though this is the second Carnage mini series from Wells, you don’t have to read the first series. It starts off fresh and dives right in. You won’t be confused, just amazed.

Recommend: Buy It – This series could stand along side the Maximum Carnage series, the first issue does not disappoint and it should get more exciting from here, you won’t want it to end.
