Nerds with Words: Top 5 Games of All-Time

Let’s just say this upfront, this isn’t a Top 5 Games of All-Time list. If we did something like that, feel it would be a bit more formal, but who knows.

What this is, was preparation for an upcoming episode of Nerds on the Rocks. When said episode will record/air, I honestly can’t tell you, but we had some great feedback from our Twitter and Facebook fans!

So over the past 24 hours or so, I’ve asked our Twitter followers and Facebook fans to compile their list of their Top 5 Favorite Games of All-Time. Below, you will just find a bunch of stats from the dozens of people who have responded to us!

Of the dozens of people who responded to us, there were 150 unique games accounted for among the various lists.

Of those, 150 games, Ocarina of Time was the runaway winner with a total of 18 appearances. To round out the top 5 would be, MGS 3 (9 votes), Uncharted 2 (8 votes), A Link to the Past (7 votes) and a multi-way tie with 6 votes for Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 3, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 7, and Resident Evil 4.

The franchise with the most votes went to the Legend of Zelda (33 votes) over 5 games (Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Link’s Awakening). Second place belonged to Super Mario (24 votes) spread out among 8 different games: Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World,Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (for the sake of this discussion, we counted Mario Kart and the Mario RPGs as separate entities). Finally, 3rd place went to Final Fantasy (21 votes) which accounted for Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 12.

The oldest game to make the list is Super Mario Bros (2 votes) and the most recent game is LA Noire (1 vote).

Most every platform was represented (won’t do a breakdown due to not everyone saying which console they chose for multi-platform games or games with multiple releases).

The company with the most votes and appearances is Nintendo, 37 games make the count for a total of 102 votes for their various games.

Really, all I got for now, if you want to know anything else, just ask in the comments section, and I’ll do my best to update some figures!
