Game of the Year Countdown: Feb 2010

Our look at the year in games continues with Feb 2010, like mentioned before Q1 of this year was jam-packed with releases, and while the shortest month on the calender, Feb had its fair share of quality games.

Let’s get to the scoreboard.

Star Trek Online (PC) 66

Not really the most remarkable PC game this year.

White Knight Chronicles (PS3) 64

Not even the best Ps3 game released that month, a somewhat niche and uneventful RPG debut.

BioShock 2 (PS3/360) 88

A nice follow-up to the original, but has too much to live up to and a somewhat questionable multiplayer aspect rounds out this release.

Dante’s Inferno (PS3/Xbox 360) 75

Listen when you want to ape a franchise so bad, you don’t release 3 weeks before said franchise comes out with a new iteration. A rather meh experience that is weakened even more by the final gauntlet of challenges.

Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll (Wii) 59

A once great, fun and original series has been watered-down and really an uneventful release.

Alien vs Predator (Ps3/360)

A decent multiplayer shooter, it was kind of lopsided especially if you ended up on the human team. Can’t tell you about the single player experience.

Endless Ocean: Blue World (Wii) 76

Never really played these games, but they seem like fun experiences for anyone who is a fan of more laid back and relaxed game play. Nothing to be GoTY about.

Heavy Rain (PS3) 87

A brood and striking take on video games. More interactive novel of sorts, it was quite the experience. With several endings, offers up ton of replayability. A top contender for Game of the Year for most.

Sonic & Sega All Star Racing (PS3/360/Wii/DS) 77

Sega’s take on the Mario Kart formula. A solid, but not too special, mascot based racer. Check it out.

Deadly Premonition (PS3/360) 68

Not a great game, but a decent B-game that has gathered quite the following takes to GiantBomb’s endurance run.

That pretty much does it for all the major releases of Feb this year, a solid line-up of games, but really the only two I think that have a chance of Game of the Year nods are Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2.

Game of the Month:

Earl Rufus

The owner of this little chunk of the internet. Enjoys having a good time and being rather snarky!
